Photographer Thomas Porter studied Fine Art photography at the University of Lethbridge from 1994 through to 1999. During his studies, Porter focused on ideas of time as they relate to form and content. A fascination with the documentary tradition evolved through his tenure as a photojournalist.
Since moving to Prince Albert in 1999, Porter has had a number of solo exhibitions including shows at Prince Albert’s Red Door Gallery, The Art Gallery of Prince Albert and the Grace Campbell Gallery. Future exhibitions are planned for the Duck Lake Museum.
In 2006, Porter began research and documentation for a coffee-table book entitled Borderlands: The Mystery and Majesty of the Milk River Ridge. The publication is a joint project with the artist’s father, grassland ecologist Shane Porter Ph.D. The publication is expected to be on shelves Winter 2008.
